Copyright basics for writers

Copyright is the legal right granted to you when you create an original work. Copyright enables you to secure income through royalties.

Understanding copyright videos

Despite being essential to creators' rights and pay, copyright is often misunderstood. So we've produced a series of short videos to shed some light on specific areas of copyright.

Research

Learn about the work we do to understand the environment writers work in today, and the challenges they face.

Campaigning

We campaign on a variety of issues of relevance and importance to writers. Find out what we’re currently working on.

Other services for writers

Read about other organisations that can help you – such as the Public Lending Right and writers’ unions.

Contracts and rights

Basic advice to help you navigate writers' rights.

What are ‘secondary uses’ or ‘secondary rights’?

We’ve developed a range of resources to help raise awareness of authors’ rights. Learn more here.
